The Spanish Department at Kensington School is a strong department with many years of experience in the teaching of Spanish as a native and a second language. It is formed by three fully qualified teachers who are Spanish native speakers and have experience in the British educational system.
We tailor the learning of Spanish to our students’ needs as we teach Spanish native speakers and students whose first contact with Spanish is when they come to Barcelona. For this reason, we differentiate our learners and set them in different levels. We prepare our students for the GCSE and ‘A’ Level qualifications and encourage non-Spanish nationals who master the Spanish language to take the DELE examinations which are recognised all over the world.
We are a very dynamic department and we encourage our students to learn about the Spanish society, culture and traditions while being at Kensington. We encourage our students to get involved in activities where they have to speak in Spanish while living in Barcelona. The best way to learn a language is by interacting with people and using the language in an active way. We encourage our students to read in Spanish and watch Spanish TV series or films.
We organise cultural visits in Barcelona throughout the year and an end of year trip to a Spanish city for Upper Sixth students. This year, the trip has been to Madrid and students had the opportunity to visit the Spanish Parliament, the Prado and Reina Sofia Museums as well as visiting Alcalá de Henares University, one of the oldest Spanish Universities, and Cervantes’ birthplace.
